An all-year-long sunbath in the middle of a green oasis

The garden structure has been completely rethought. We created:

a sunny terrace with cosy furniture next to the pond to relax and make the most of the garden all year long,

a shady terrace for hot summer days to have lunch next to the house and enjoy the afternoon sun and sunset with friends,

an evergreen Magnolia Grandi Flora tree, a high Hornbeam hedge at the back of the garden and a climbing Wisteria vine on each side of the terrace to block the views from the neighbours and have more privacy.

The choice of plants, trees, materials and furniture gives the garden a contemporary look matching perfectly the house style.

The terraces and plants are easy to maintain, and the furniture is modular so it can be used outside and inside the house, extending the living areas during spring, summer and autumn.

A welcoming and lush entrance of a charming house

BEFORE

PROPOSITION

To highlight the charming facade of this newly renovated house, the entrance and front garden will have:

a wider path including lights and bordered by colourful flower plants adapted to the soil and trees shade,

trees and hedges to structure the garden, give volume and more privacy, and offer a lush and green journey from the street to the house.

The key requirements of the house owners were to have an easy and low maintenance garden that includes plants that can sustain in that environment.

With garden structure ideas, inspirational moodboards and detailed plants list, the owners have all they need to start creating their front garden by themselves.

A lovely sculpture reflecting itself on a pond

List of plants

The owners wanted more flowers at the beginning and end of the season and to modernise the garden with a more contemporary style. The garden was revamped to include:

a rectangular ‘corten’ pond and a beautiful sculpture from a local artist,

additional flower beds close to the terrace,

creation of a reading and lunch area in the sun, surrounded by flowers. Recovery of old family furniture in wrought iron.

The flower beds have a romantic country style with full sun exposure and consideration of the owners’ grass allergies.

The sculpture is surrounded by elegant shady plants. The choice of a raised pond was also done for safety reasons, with a dog and grandchildren still to come.

Finally, the garden, which combines structure and lightness, is easy to maintain for this hard-working couple.

A country atmosphere with a cosy corner

BEFORE

PROPOSITION

List of plants

This project was about creating privacy, without losing the view of the beautiful neighbouring garden. We added:

create a cosy corner with a bench, footstools and a deckchair for napping in the garden,

plant a large bed of flowers and bushes to create a colourful country atmosphere to be visisble from the living room,

add a colourful flowering tree in autumn to hide an uninteresting part.

What was important for this couple with a baby was to get a garden with relatively low maintenance and to get a budget idea early in the project. They used my advice, detailed list of plants and garden plan to complete the work themselves.

A sunny and green terrace that makes you feel like you are on holiday

Inspiration

To bring more colours, nature and cosiness, the terrace and back garden have been revisited to include:

a covered lounge area matching the colour palette with a set of evergreen plant in pots and mirrors to maximise sunlight,

planter boxes, pots and hanging plants to bring a lush and green look to the concrete walls and steps at all seasons,

a pergola with a climbing vine growing on it to give a shady area during hot summer days and a cosy atmosphere when having lunch on the terrace,

bushes and trees in the back yard to block the neighbours view, hide the garden shed and bring depth to the garden.

The main focus of this project was to keep as much as possible the existing flooring, pots and walls while keeping the budget low. The chosen colours and plants are matching perfectly with the interior of the house, extending the living area, and gives a warm touch to the outdoor area.
